cake wars

Yesterday, I scheduled our cake tasting with our pastry chef, and I really couldn’t be more excited… unnaturally excited, actually. Don’t get me wrong…I am in love with my dress and my flowers and all of the other wonderful details of our wedding, but as a dessert lover and cake connoisseur, this is a big moment for me. Since we got engaged, I have been saving pictures of cakes (and flavors) that I love, so when it came time to make a decision I was surprised to learn that my fiancé had a couple ideas of his own when it came to our wedding cake...
Idea #1
Bill wants cannoli cream filling; I hate cannoli cream and want an almond cake with orange marmalade and Grand Marnier buttercream frosting (HELLO, that’s delicious). He concedes on the orange cake and we also agree on a black and white cake with strawberry filling and vanilla bean buttercream, as well.
… and after I tell him there will be a whole table filled with Italian pastries (including his beloved cannolis), he ditches the cannoli cream filling idea.
Idea #2
While we’re having a big Italian, Jersey wedding, I’ve always had simple, clean taste…something that we have butted heads with throughout this planning process. I send him a photo of this cake and ask him what he thinks.

he wrote back and said "What about this?"

hmm..wasn't really the direction i was heading in, darling, but I see where you're going...

i respond with THIS cake:

we're at standstill, currently...he's not feeling the ribbon look, where anything over 4 tiers gives me a panic attack.
but we'll meet in the middle somewhere.. isn't that what marriage is all about? :)
