wine and cupcakes

is there really anything better? to me, not really...since today is National Drink Wine Day, i thought i'd give a shout out to a wonderful place in California that offers both...

when bill and i were on the Left Coast in November, my sister told me there was a tasting room in Los Olivos that had amazing red wines and Syrah cupcakes.

obviously needed to check this out for myself...

as soon we walked into this darling shop, i knew i was in love. we were greeted by the owner's five year old daughter, Brielle, who was so outrageously entertaining and adorable. During our second pour, the owner came in, fresh from picking grapes! He gave us the history of Saarloos & Sons, chatted about Italian culture and we continued to be amused by Brielle. (Seriously, she does everything except pour the wine.)

Their AMAZING wines are all family named (literally: Mother, Father, Extended Family) and every last drop is so delicious.

Bill and I joined their wine club and I was so happy (and slightly drunk) that I didn't even realize they ran out of Syrah cupcakes....a bummer, but we'll be back again, for sure. The flight alone is worth it, and I am counting the days.
